Long and Short Vowel

Vowels : a,  e,  u,  i,  o
Short vowels: we pronounce the word short when there is only one vowel in a word.
Examples: bit,  fit,  lit,  cot,  boy
However,  not all words that have only one vowel are pronounced short, for example: She,  He,  We (we pronounce these words long)
Long vowels: we pronounce the word long if there are more than one vowel in a word.
Examples: book,  shoes,  goat,  fool,  youth.
